Rationale of the Programme
Department of Finance offers an internship programme in Year IV – Semester II to provide a meaningful “real-life” work experience as an enhancement of the quality of B.Sc. Finance (Special) undergraduates. The experience obtained through this internship majoring in Finance represents situations beyond realm of knowledge gained through classroom instructions. The Department believes that “hands-on” learning in real life scenarios can generally enhance the quality of the Student Interns who have acquired sufficient conceptual and theoretical knowledge in Finance via the curriculum. Student Interns are required to obtain a placement related to finance at an internship sponsoring organization. Recommended areas include (but not limited to) Equity Research, Valuations, Money Market/ Capital Market Activities, Investing, Financing, Working Capital Management, Treasury Management, FOREX Management, Risk Management, and Insurance, etc.
Objectives of the Programme
- To provide Student Interns with relevant practical, professional hands-on experience in a real-world finance setting
- To enhance the Student Interns’ understanding and application of finance concepts, principles, theories, and procedures learnt in the classroom
- To strengthen oral and written communication skills of Student Interns
- To strengthen interpersonal skills and critical thinking skills of Student Interns
- To facilitate Student Interns to build up a network in professional finance positions among the business community
Programme: FIN 4644 Internship in Finance
A six (6) credit course that emphasizes a training that is related to the field of finance. Student Interns are expected to engage in a minimum of 600 working hours of practical training to complete the course for evaluation.
