The Team University of Sri Jayewardenepura Emerged Champions in the Southern Asia Sub Region at the CFA Research Challenge 2022-2023
The Asia Pacific Sub-Regional Challenge was organized under four sub-regions, namely, Eastern Asia, Oceania, South-eastern Asia, and Southern Asia. Team Sri Lanka competed in the Southern Asia Sub-Region against three teams from India, two teams from Pakistan and one team from Bangladesh in March 2023. The team of University of Sri Jayewardenepura who advanced to the Virtual Asia Pacific Sub-Regional Challenge representing Sri Lanka in the CFA Research Challenge 2022/23 and Team representing Indian Institute of Foreign Trade, New Delhi emerged champions in the Southern Asia sub region qualifying for Asia Pacific Regional Semi-Finals scheduled on 6th and 7th April 2023.
The Sri Lankan team comprised of five third-year undergraduates of Department of Finance representing University of Sri Jayewardenepura; Oshan Brahmanage (Team leader), Yashan Samarakoon, Malithi Jayaratne, Hashini Siriwardena, and Mahee Silva. The team was guided by the industry mentor – CFA Charterholder – Mr. Tharinda Jayawardena, of TWCorp (Pvt) Ltd. and the faculty advisor – Ms. Ruwangi Mahanamahewa, Lecturer of Department of Finance throughout the challenge.
Asia Pacific Regional Semi-Finals is scheduled to be held on 6th and 7th April 2023 virtually, in which eleven teams will be participating under two separate groups. Team Sri Lanka will be competing under the first group against five teams, namely, China Foreign Affairs University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Universitas Indonesia, University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City and University of Sydney. The winners from Regional Semi-Finals will advance to the Regional Finals, and thereby to the Global Finals which is scheduled to be held on 3rd May 2023.
