Business Information Systems Student Symposiums (BISSS) 2024

The fifth “BIS Student Symposium” (BISSS 2024) organized by the Department of Information Technology was held on Wednesday, the 28th of February 2024 from 1.00 pm onwards at Fayol Hall, Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce, University of Sri Jayewardenepura. The event was organized to provide the students a platform to engage, showcase, and contemplate the more socially conscious and applied avenues of Information Systems and Management education. This year, it was held as a part of the ICBM 2024 research week.

The symposium consisted of 2 main tracks showcasing 05 extended abstracts and 03 projects presented by the department’s undergraduates. The event was conducted with the participation of approximately 100 undergraduates, university academic staff members, alumni, and industry practitioners.

Keynote Speaker 02: Dr. Lahiru Ariyasinghe, Associate Architect – Data Science, Axiata Digital Labs

Invited Speaker: Mr. Kun Wang, Senior Consultant at Planted Consultancy Services

Best Research Award: Propagation of Information Using Political Hashtags in Facebook: A Social Network Analysis, Nikita Fernando and Prof. K.S. Lasith Gunawardena

Best IS Development Project Award: “PHARMA HUNT” Online Uncommon Medicine Finding System, Dharani Nirasha, Dilki Sasikala and Dr. Mahesh Fernando

This event was chaired by Ms. Lakshana Assalaarachchi while Ms. Dulari Perera acted as the secretary of BISSS 2024.
