BISWelcome Student Orientation Program 2024

The BISWelcome Student Orientation program of the Department of Information Technology was held on 04^th April 2024 at the Senate boardroom of the University. The purpose of this program was to welcome first year students to the department and to make them aware of the curriculum of the Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) Honours in Business Information Systems Degree program. This event was graced by Dr. Dushan Jayawickrama, the Dean of the Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce, as the guest of honor, Mr. Eichiro Alanzo Doll, CTO, Engenuity AI and Chairman, BCS, the Chartered Institute for IT Sri Lanka Section as the guest industry speaker, and Mr. Samantha Pallegedara, Founder and Managing Director, Nvision Holdings (Pvt) Ltd as the guest alumni speaker. The academic staff members of the department, alumni members, members of the Students Association of the Department of Information Technology and first year students of the department participated in the event. The head of the Department, Prof. Lasith Gunawardena welcomed the students formally for the event and program. Prof. Champa Hewagamage elaborated the four year curriculum in detail. At the end of the two industry/alumni speaker and speech by Mr. Eran Fernando, President of the students association of IT, a question and answer session to provide answers for the questions raised by the students with the participation of all the staff members of the department.

After the formal orientation program, there was an interactive program with the participation of all the academic staff members of the department, alumni members and first-year students. The ten alumni members who joined were :

8. Ms. Oshani Bodhiwansa, Assistant Director (IT), National Enterprise Development Authority
9. Ms. Dilinika Lakrandi, SAP Consultant, Potenza pvt ltd
10. Ms. Hansini Abesinghe, Associate Project Manager, Pristine Solutions

This program was successfully held at the SBTF 03 hall from 5:00 pm – 6:00 pm. During this program, the students were able to have a conversation with the alumni members to get an overview of the industry opportunities available for the Business Information Systems graduate while alumni members shared their experiences with the first-year students.

The members of the Students Association of the Department of Information Technology assisted throughout the program to make this event a success.
