D-Hack 2024
The D-Hack competition, organized by the Students’ Association of the Department of Information Technology (S@IT), successfully returned for its fifth edition, expanding participation to both government and private universities. This year’s theme centered on developing mobile application prototypes to address real-world problems. The competition was sponsored by Janashakthi Group.
The competition featured three preparatory workshops: “Design Thinking and Transforming Ideas into Reality” by Mr. Dushantha Ranwala of Dialog Axiata PLC, a UX Design workshop by Ms. Kushanthi Hasinika, and a UI Design session by Mr. Buddhi Prasan of HealthRecon Connect.
Teams of three submitted proposals outlining their project ideas, with twenty advancing based on UI design knowledge. A panel of industry judges evaluated these submissions, leading to the selection of eight teams for the final round, where they presented refined designs and business pitches.
The Grand Finale was held on October 6, 2024, at the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, attended by distinguished guests and faculty. The final judging panel included industry leaders such as Mr. K.V. Kuganathan from Janashakthi Group.
Team 9-IX from the Informatics Institute of Technology (IIT) won the competition with their AI-powered travel app, “Cyfly,” aimed at simplifying trip planning for tourists in Sri Lanka. Team Vortex and Team Wireframe Wizards secured second and third places, respectively.
