VERVE 2020 – Department of Business Administration
In celebration of 40 years of supremacy and legacy of the Department of Business Administration, the Association of Business Administration (ABA) of the Department of Business Administration organized VERVE 2020, the Inter-School Debating Competition and Talent Show of Business Undergraduates. The event was held on 19th of February 2020 at the National Youth Centre, Maharagama.
The Inter-School Debating Competition concluded after a combative and heated debates, with the Royal College Colombo emerging as the Champions of VERVE 2020, the Inter-School Debating Competition while Kingswood College Kandy securing their position as Runner-Up. VihanKaveesha, Captain of Kingswood College was adjudicated as the Best Speaker of the Tournament.
The Champion, Runner-Up, and the Best Speaker were awarded with their respective shields and a cash prize of 100,000, 75,000 and 25000 rupees respectively. The Ibbagamuwa Central College was able to bag the title of the ‘Most Popular Team’ of VERVE 2020 for acquiring the highest number of votes in the online campaign.
VERVE was a platform for the Business Undergraduates to showcase their multifaceted talents and to prove that they can excel in not only academics but also in aesthetics breaking down the conventional myths. The Talent Show comprised of 14 different performances where BusinessUndergraduates unveiled their talents in tiers of Singing, Dancing and Acting. Each and every one of these items were performed by Business Undergraduates while the singers were backed by none other than the talented instrumentalists from the Department itself.
The Vice Chancellor of University of Sri Jayewardenepura, Senior Professor SudanthaLiyanage graced the occasion as the Chief Guest for the day. Among the special guests were the Dean of the Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce, Dr. U. Anura Kumara, Head of the Department of Business Administration Dr. KalyaniKariyapperuma, Senior Lecturers of the Department Dr. M. D. Pushpakumari, Dr. HemamaliGunathilake, Dr. RupikaSenadheera, Dr. SeshikaKariyapperuma and Dr. Ayesha Kotuwage, Senior Treasurer and Advisor of Association of Business Administration Mr. Pathum Kodikara and other Lecturers of the Department of Business Administration. Mr. BandaraDissanayake, the Chairman of the Sakya Academy of Higher Education and Mr. SurangaSenanayake Channel Head, News First of Capital Maharaja (Pvt.) were special invitees for the day in recognition of their immense support extended throughout the event. Mr. RohanaBaddage and Mr. Rodney Warnakula were also present making the evening a much more glamourous one.
To further spellbind the dignified arena of VERVE 2020 amidst the loud cheer of the excited audience, the stage was opened to a sensational set of youngsters who took the music industry by a storm. It was none other than ‘INFINITY’ who took the entire audience to an enthralling journey of music captivating the true essence of a vitalizing experience. It was truly an infinite experience where the entire audience stepped up and danced to the hypnotizing rhythms.
