Mindful Leadership
A session on ‘Mindful Leadership’ was conducted for second-year undergraduates in the Department of Business Administration under the Business Psychology course on 04th of September 2026. Dr. Sanath Mahawithanage PhD, Senior Lecturer at the Faculty of Medical Sciences, University of Sri Jayewardenepura, and Director of the Centre for Mindfulness Practices and Research, University of Sri Jayewardenepura, delivered the session.
Through a range of highly interactive and engaging activities and learning methods, Dr. Mahawithanage encouraged students to explore and develop their understanding of the significance of practising mindfulness. The session particularly focused on the relevance of mindfulness to students as future managers and leaders, highlighting how cultivating mindfulness can help them become more aware, attentive, and thoughtful leaders.
The session further explored the importance of developing mindful leadership capabilities in a world increasingly characterised by complexity, uncertainty, rapid change, and chaos, encouraging students to reflect on how mindfulness can support effective leadership and decision-making in such challenging environments.
