A Systematic Review of Organisational Misbehaviour: Antecedents, Displays, Consequences, and Boundary Conditions

We are happy to share with you the work of our colleagues, Mr. Nirmal Chathuranga, Prof. Kalyani Kariyapperuma and Ms. Kalani Madhuwanthi,  featured in the Colombo Business Journal (Vol. 17, June 2026). Their work synthesises 43 studies (2011–2025) and explains how organisational misbehaviour emerges and persists.  It shows how misbehaviour arises from individual, group, organisational, and cultural factors, and often forms a self-reinforcing cycle: stress and injustice trigger deviance, which in turn leads to burnout and further injustice. Ethical leadership, fairness, and emotional regulation help break this cycle.  Ultimately, the review introduces a unified, process-based model that deepens our understanding of workplace deviance.
