Educational Field Visit to Bandaranaike International Airport
The first-year students of the B.Sc. Honours in Real Estate Management and Valuation degree programme, Department of Estate Management and Valuation, University of Sri Jayewardenepura, participated in an enriching educational field visit to Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA), Katunayake, on 14th October 2025.
This industry-focused visit provided students with a valuable opportunity to witness real-world applications of real estate principles within one of Sri Lanka’s most significant national assets. Students explored key airport facilities and gained insights into the management practices, operational procedures, and infrastructure development that support a complex, large-scale transportation hub.
During the visit, students observed:
- Airport operational workflows
- Infrastructure planning and property management processes
- Major development projects, including BIADP Phase II – Stage 2
- Passenger terminal functions and movement flows
- Cargo handling operations
- Fire and rescue services and safety protocols
These experiences demonstrated how real estate, infrastructure development, and aviation converge to create efficient, sustainable, and secure built environments. The visit served as a meaningful bridge between classroom learning and industry practice, inspiring students to think critically about their future roles in shaping Sri Lanka’s evolving real estate landscape.
