Exploring Real Estate Impacts of Transport Infrastructure: USJ Students’ Visit to Makumbura Multimodal Center
The 2nd- and 3rd-year undergraduates of the Department of Estate Management and Valuation, University of Sri Jayewardenepura, recently visited the Makumbura Multimodal Center (MMC) as part of their academic learning.
Organized under the course modules Real Estate Investment Analysis and Real Estate Development, the field visit offered students an invaluable opportunity to see how theoretical concepts are translated into practice through large-scale infrastructure projects.
During the visit, students explored the planning process behind the MMC, examined the importance of multimodal centers in urban development, and gained perspectives on future development prospects. They also studied how such transport projects influence real estate markets and contribute to sustainable urban growth and connectivity.
This experience marked a vital step in bridging theory with practice, strengthening students’ understanding and preparing them for future professional roles in the real estate sector.
