Exploring the Real Estate Behind Sri Lanka’s Aviation Gateway
The Department of Estate Management and Valuation, University of Sri Jayewardenepura, organized an educational field visit for first-year undergraduate students of the B.Sc. (Honours) in Real Estate Management and Valuation degree programme under the EMV 1170 – Introduction to Real Estate course to Bandaranaike International Airport.
The visit provided students with valuable first-hand exposure to the planning, management, and operation of one of Sri Lanka’s most significant national infrastructure assets. Through guided observations and interactive sessions, students gained insights into airport infrastructure, estate and property management, facility management, airport operations, and ongoing development initiatives that support the efficient functioning of an international airport.
The experience enabled students to connect fundamental concepts of real estate with practical applications in a complex operational environment. It also broadened their understanding of how strategic infrastructure assets are planned, managed, and developed while highlighting the multidisciplinary nature of real estate management within large-scale public facilities.
The Department extends its sincere appreciation to Airport & Aviation Services (Sri Lanka) (Private) Limited for its warm hospitality, professional guidance, and valuable knowledge sharing throughout the visit. Such industry collaborations continue to strengthen experiential learning opportunities and contribute to the development of competent, industry-ready real estate professionals.
