Third-Year Undergraduate Students Gain Hands-On Training at Tea Research Institute, Kuruvita
Third-year undergraduates of the B.Sc. (Hons) in Real Estate Management and Valuation at the University of Sri Jayewardenepura recently embarked on a practical learning experience at the Tea Research Institute – Low Country Station, located at St. Joachim Estate, Kuruvita.
The field visit focused on providing hands-on training in the valuation of tea estates with operational factories—an essential and specialized area within the valuation discipline. This immersive experience was organized through a collaborative initiative between the Department of Estate Management and Valuation (EMV) and the Institute of Valuers of Sri Lanka (IVSL).
Council Members of the IVSL, along with experienced officers from the Government Valuation Department (GVD) – Ratnapura Branch, joined the session as resource persons, offering professional insights and guidance throughout the visit.
The initiative aimed to bridge academic learning with practical exposure, equipping students with the necessary skills to assess complex agricultural and industrial property assets such as tea estates. Students had the opportunity to interact with valuation professionals, observe real-world practices, and better understand the methodologies and considerations involved in estate valuation.
The Department extends its sincere gratitude to the management of the Tea Research Institute – Ratnapura Low Country Station, the IVSL, and the GVD team for their continued support and commitment to nurturing the future generation of valuers in Sri Lanka.
This visit marks another successful step in strengthening industry-academic partnerships and enriching the professional education of aspiring real estate practitioners.
