M.Sc. in Real Estate Management and Valuation Students Strengthen Academic Partnership with the RICS School of Built Environment, Amity University, India, Through a Three-Day Study Tour in Mumbai

The M.Sc. in Real Estate Management and Valuation (2023/25 batch) of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura completed a successful academic visit to the RICS School of Built Environment (SBE), Amity University, India—further advancing the long-standing collaboration between the two institutions.

Day 01: Inauguration & Collaborative Dialogue

The visit opened with a formal inauguration ceremony at Amity University Mumbai, graced by Prof. A.W. Santhosh Kumar, Vice Chancellor of Amity University Mumbai, and Dr. Sanjay Patil, Director & Head of Institution, RICS SBE. Senior representatives of the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) and faculty of RICS SBE also joined the session.

Representing the Department of Estate Management and Valuation (DEMV), Prof. Prathap Kaluthanthri, Head of Department, and Senior Prof. R.G. Ariyawansa addressed the gathering, emphasizing the significance of expanding academic networks and strengthening professional pathways.

Students from both universities shared their perspectives, creating a welcoming environment for knowledge exchange and cross-cultural interaction.

The second session of the day focused on navigating professional progression through RICS. Mr. Ashwani Awasthi, Managing Director of RICS India, and Ms. Aarti Anthony, Candidate & Early Years Engagement Lead for South Asia and MENA, delivered an insightful discussion on enhancing global career opportunities through RICS membership and accreditation.

The day concluded with an interactive evening hosted by RICS SBE students, featuring academic conversations, collaborative idea sharing, cultural exchanges, and a guided tour of the Amity University campus.

Day 02: Workshop on Plant & Machinery Valuation

The second day centered on a practical learning experience in Plant and Machinery Valuation.
Students began with a classroom workshop exploring theoretical frameworks, valuation techniques, and real-world case examples.

In the afternoon, participants visited a heavy metal industry, where they observed live operational processes and valuation challenges in an industrial setting.
The workshop concluded with a certificate ceremony, marking the successful completion of this hands-on professional training.

Day 03: Urban Planning & City Development Tour

The final day offered an immersive Urban Planning and City Development Tour across Mumbai and Navi Mumbai—one of South Asia’s most dynamic metropolitan regions.

Organized with the support of RICS SBE postgraduate students and faculty, the tour exposed participants to:

  • Major infrastructure corridors
  • Land-use planning and regulatory frameworks
  • Redevelopment zones and heritage precincts
  • Urban renewal and sustainable development strategies

Through direct exposure to complex urban environments, students gained a deeper understanding of how planning, governance, and private investment collectively shape the real estate landscape of emerging global cities.

This three-day academic visit reinforced the shared commitment of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura and the RICS School of Built Environment to developing globally competent real estate professionals. The exchange of ideas, collaborative learning activities, and exposure to India’s vibrant built-environment sector created a meaningful and transformative experience for the 2023/25 postgraduate cohort.
