Educational Field Visit – Agricultural Valuation
In line with the course curriculum of EMV 3349: Agricultural Valuation, an educational field visit to a Tea Estate with a Factory was carried out on 10th November 2022 to the Athukorala Group (Pvt) Ltd, Pitigala. The filed visit was organized by the academic staff of DEMV in collaboration with IVSL with the main aim to provide Degree Part III students with sound practical knowledge on how to value an agricultural property specifically a tea estate with a factory. Further, students were given firsthand experience on the operations of the tea estate and factory and how it would impact the property valuation. The field visit was led by Prof. K.G.P.K Weerakoon, Prof. N.C. Wickrmaarachchi, Dr. Prathap Kaluthanthri, and assisted by Ms. Hashini Wickramasinghe, Mr. Nimasha Sugathadasa and Ms. Githmi Abeysooriya. On the return from the field visit, all the students are required to submit a property valuation report for the property they inspected as a compulsory component of their course module. DEMV also presented a token of appreciation to Mr. Anura Athukorala, Chairman of Athukorala Group (Pvt) Ltd for the wonderful hospitality provided and the valuable opportunity given to undergraduates to learn about tea production and its operations.
