The Department of Estate Management and Valuation, University of Sri Jayewardenepura, successfully hosted the first pre-conference workshop of the International Conference on Real Estate Management and Valuation (ICREMV) 2025 on 12th September at Port City Colombo. The workshop was conducted under the theme “Valuation Reforms for the Local Government Property Rating in Sri Lanka.”

The session focused on examining current challenges in property rating systems, exploring international best practices for modernizing valuation processes, encouraging knowledge exchange among authorities and practitioners, and developing policy recommendations to strengthen local government financial performance.

Distinguished participants included the Chief Valuer of the Government Valuation Department, the Municipal Assessor of the Colombo Municipal Council, the General Secretary and Treasurer of the Institute of Valuers of Sri Lanka, RICS Sri Lanka Council Members, representatives from Dehiwala–Mount Lavinia and Kaduwela Municipal Councils, officials from the Ministry of Finance, and senior valuers from across the country.

The valuable insights generated during the workshop will serve as the foundation for drafting a policy paper on valuation reforms for local government property rating in Sri Lanka.

The Department extends special thanks to Port City Colombo for partnering to make this significant knowledge-sharing platform a success.
