ABOUT

Dr. Nuwan Gunarathne is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, specializing in the field of accounting. He is a member of both the Institute of Certified Management Accountants of Sri Lanka and the Chartered Institute of Management Accounting (UK). Nuwan earned his doctorate in Corporate Sustainability and Sustainability Accounting from Griffith University in Australia. He also holds an MBA from the Postgraduate Institute of Management (PIM) and a Business Administration degree from the University of Sri Jayewardenepura. Nuwan has an extensive publication history, authoring numerous national and international publications on various topics related to management accounting, sustainability accounting, waste management, and accounting education. His articles have been published in many prestigious international journals.

With his expertise in corporate sustainability, sustainability accounting and reporting, and integrated reporting, Nuwan is highly sought after as a speaker. He has presented papers in many countries including Finland, Australia, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Germany, Vietnam, Thailand, and South Korea. He is also a committee member of the Environmental and Sustainability Management Accounting Network (EMAN) Asia Pacific (AP) and the country representative of the Sri Lanka Chapter of EMAN-AP. Nuwan has been awarded grants from the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA), Ministry of Environment, Griffith Asia Institute, National Science Foundation, University of Sri Jayewardenepura, and World Bank to support and continue his research activities. Nuwan’s contributions to the field of sustainability accounting have been widely recognized through numerous international and national awards for his research excellence.
