Heartstrings 2024 – The English Day Celebrations
On November 6th, 2024, the Department of Business Economics proudly hosted Heartstrings 2024—the department’s inaugural English Day in collaboration with the Business Communication Unit. Held at the Sri Sumangala Auditorium, this vibrant event celebrated creativity and linguistic talent, bringing together students and faculty for a memorable evening.
The event was graced by distinguished guests Dr. Ravibandhu Vidyapathy and Mr. Prasanna Pathmanathan, along with esteemed faculty members, including Senior Professor Sampath Amaratunge, Professor Chair of the Department of Business Economics; Prof. Lasith Gunawardena, Acting Dean (FMSC); and respected lecturers from the Department and the Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce.
In the lead-up to the event, an exciting series of competitions—creative writing, spelling, recitation, speech, and essay writing—were held to fuel enthusiasm and engagement among students. The winners of these competitions were awarded during the grand finale, where their outstanding work was celebrated with pride.
Adding to the grandeur of the occasion, the Department launched the first print of the book, “Echoes of Expression”, a compilation of the winning essays, poems, and creative writing pieces from the competitions. This book stands as a testament to the talent and creativity of our students.
The evening featured a delightful lineup of performances by second, third, and fourth year students, showcasing their talents through dance, music, and drama. Heartstrings 2024 was more than an event—it was a celebration of language, culture, and community. The event left a lasting impression, marking a new tradition of creative expression within the department.
Heartstrings 2024 was truly a night to remember!!
