
The Metaverse: Through a Marketer’s Eye
For the second consecutive year, the Marketing Management Association of the Department of Marketing Management, University of Sri Jayewardenepura, organized the Marketing Architect webinar series with the purpose of covering trending topics and providing insights that will help design a sharp marketer. Marketing architect 2.0 benefits many pillars in society by creating a path to build next level enthusiastic marketers, as it imparts knowledge that helps fresh marketers develop their skills.
The biggest Marketing Architect Discussion Forum organized by the Marketing Management Association was successfully held at the Senate Board Room of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura on November 28, 2022. The discussion forum was titled “The Metaverse: Through a Marketer’s Eye” under the theme “Decoding the Metaverse” and how virtual worlds will change the way we do almost everything.
The panelists for the day were: Mr. Lalith Sumanisiri Godakanda, the Managing Director of Ogilvy Digital, Ogilvy Media, and Redworks; Mr. Indika Bandara Wijesooriya, the Chief Innovation Officer at Arimac Lanka; and Dr. Sapumal Ahangama, a Senior Lecturer of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, University of Moratuwa. Moreover, we are thankful to the moderator for the day, Mr. Amitha Amarasinghe, the Co-founder and CEO at APIDM.
The audience certainly gained valuable insights from the forum. It was learned that the metaverse is a hypothetical iteration of the internet as a single, universal, and immersive virtual world that is facilitated using virtual reality and augmented reality headsets. Businesses and marketing in today’s world are penetrated by technology and its development, and it has become the newest macro-goal for many of the world’s tech giants, which emphasizes the depth and validity of the topic for marketers in the current business world.
