
Formation and Inaugural AGM of the Circular Economy & Sustainability Association (CESA)
The inaugural Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Circular Economy & Sustainability Association (CESA) was successfully held on 6th July 2025, from 10:00 a.m. onwards at the Officers’ Mess, marking a significant milestone in the journey of the M.Sc. in Waste Management and Circular Economy degree program.
Organized by the first intake of the MSc program, the event aimed to formally launch CESA – a collaborative platform dedicated to promoting sustainable practices through community engagement projects, capacity-building workshops, and professional development initiatives, with a strong focus on waste management and circular economy principles.
Prof. Dushan Jayawickrama, Dean of the Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce, University of Sri Jayewardenepura, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. The event was further enriched by the presence of Senior Prof. (Chair) K. D. Gunawardana, Course Coordinator of the program; Dr. Janaka Fernando, Director of the Postgraduate Centre for Business Studies; along with other distinguished academic staff members of the program.Adding further prestige to the event, Dr. W. A. Wijewardena, former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka, participated as a Special Guest, sharing valuable insights on sustainability and economic transformation in Sri Lanka.
During the AGM, students from both the first and second intakes of the MSc program were appointed as the inaugural office bearers of CESA, symbolizing the beginning of a dynamic and student-led initiative.The event concluded with interactive games and a networking lunch, fostering camaraderie and collaboration among students, academics, and invited guests.
