We are excited to announce that the Department of Business Economics has secured two group research grants at the Gamini Corea Research Awards 2024-2025. These prestigious and competitive grants, each worth Rs. 3 million, have been awarded to promote impactful economic research in Sri Lanka.

One of the recognized projects is titled “Capturing the Digital Economy Measurement Framework for Sri Lanka: Assessing Key Indicators, Trends, and Policy Implications”. This groundbreaking research is led by Prof. Kumuduni Sriyalatha and includes a dedicated team comprising Dr. Priyantha Lalani, Dr. Maduranga, and Ms. Thilini Navaratne. Their project will focus on measuring the key aspects of Sri Lanka’s digital economy, providing valuable insights into its growth and development.

Another team, led by Dr. Janaka Fernando, received the grant for their project, “Social Security Challenges of an Ageing Population Amid Economic Downturn: A Case of Sri Lanka”. This critical research addresses the growing challenges faced by Sri Lanka’s ageing population, especially in the context of economic instability.

These awards mark a proud moment for the Department of Business Economics, highlighting its commitment to advancing knowledge and providing research-driven solutions to national economic challenges. We extend our heartfelt congratulations to both teams for their remarkable achievements and look forward to the positive impact their research will have on the future of Sri Lanka’s economy.
