Curriculum Development Workshop of the Department of Business Economics 2022

“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world”

-Nelson Mandela

As Sri Lanka’s first business economics degree program, the Department of Business Economics was created to meet the growing demand for an economics degree in management, which was the first of its kind in the university system. The degree program’s focus is on bridging the theoretical and practical aspects of economics in the real world. To aid in personal, social, and national growth, the Department also helps undergraduates develop their skills in research, analysis, communication, teamwork, and decision making. The department is currently in the process of developing a new curriculum in order to keep pace with the ever-changing global and local business environment.

Under curriculum review, the degree program requires students to choose a concentration from among three options: Banking (BNK), Development Studies (DS), or International Economics and Business (IEB) (IEB). Certain semesters would have different mandatory and optional course units depending on the chosen specialization. As the final stem of the new curriculum review, the Department of Business Economics participate in a two-day workshop at Citrus Waskaduwa, on the 24th and 25th of January 2022, organized by the Faculty of Management Studies & Commerce, USJ. It was a privilege to have Prof. Janak Kumarasinghe, Head of the Department of Business Economics, and all academic members for this event and share their wealth of knowledge. A special Thank goes to the Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce for organizing this tremendous workshop.
