Being the products of a unique degree program which combines both Management and Economics, the graduates produced by the department have enhanced employment prospects especially in the fields of Economics Policy and Regulation, Business Analysis and Planning, Research and Consultancy in government, semi-government and private sector organizations. Some of the prestigious institutes which have already recruited our graduates are the Central Bank of Sri Lanka, Commercial Banks, Finance Enterprises, Stock Brokering and Insurance Companies.
The Department offers four specialisation areas from the third year onwards that shape students’ academic focus and career paths: Development Studies, Banking, International Economics and Business, and Data Science for Economics. Each specialisation combines economic theory, analytical skills, and practical applications to prepare students for diverse career opportunities.
- Development Studies focuses on understanding economic development and policy analysis, leading to careers in research institutions, government organisations, consultancy firms, and NGOs.
- Banking covers bank management, central banking, and monetary policy, preparing students for professional roles in the banking and financial sectors, research institutions, and public organizations.
- International Economics and Business provides insights into global trade, finance, and international business, opening pathways in multinational corporations, international trade, finance, and logistics.
- Data Science for Economics equips students with strong analytical and data-driven skills for modern economic and business environments, leading to careers in business analytics, public policy analysis, and research and consultancy.
