Japan confers “The Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon” to Snr. Prof. Sampath Amaratunge

For the dedication to the cause of promoting friendly relations between Japan and Sri Lanka, Senior Prof. Sampath Amaratunge (Professor Chair of Business Economics and Chairman of University Grants Commission) has been conferred with the award “The Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays” by His Majesty the Emperor of Japan.

Known officially as “The Order of the Rising Sun,” it is the highest honour bestowed by the Japanese government in the name of His Majesty the Emperor on individuals who have achieved notable accomplishments in fields such as foreign relations, and the development of Japanese culture.

On 14 October 2021, the ceremony was held at the official residence of the Ambassador for Japan Mr. SUGIYAMA Akira to confer “The Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon” on Senior Professor Sampath Amaratunge, Chair of the University Grants Commission.
