Master of Business Economics (MBEc)

Entry Qualifications

To be eligible for admission to the MBEc programme, an applicant should hold any of following qualifications and a sound knowledge of English.

  1. A qualification equivalent to SLQF 5 or above in Economics/ Management/ Mathematics/ Statistics or the relevant discipline from a recognized university, degree-awarding institute, or professional institute.

  2. A qualification equivalent to SLQF 5 or above from a recognized university, or degree-awarding institute, along with prior learning or one-year of relevant experience.

  3. A qualification (passed finalist) equivalent to SLQF 5 or above from a professional institute, along with prior learning or two years of relevant experience.

  4. Completion of NVQ level 7 in Economics/ Management/ Mathematics/ Statistics or other relevant discipline, as determined by the BOSBS of the FMSC.

  5. Higher National Diploma in Accountancy (HNDA)/ Higher National Diploma in Management (HNDM)/ Higher National Diploma in Commerce (HNDC) (4-year course) offered by Sri Lanka Institute of Advanced Technological Education with one year of relevant experience.

  6. Any other qualification accepted by the Senate of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura.

Selection Procedure

The selection procedure consists of the following steps:

  1. All received applications are screened to ensure that they meet the admission requirements.

  2. Applicants who meet the basic requirements are called for an aptitude test. This test is designed to assess the English proficiency and quantitative skills necessary to do the MBEc programme and the level of intelligence of the candidates.

  3. A formal interview will be conducted for those who obtain more than 50 percent for the aptitude test. An interview will be conducted to assess the verbal competence in English, the candidate’s motivation for higher studies and the commitment to pursue the programme to its completion.

  4. Final selection will be done by considering the total sum of marks obtained from the aptitude test and the interview.

  10. Any other professional institutions accepted by the admission board and by the Senate of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura
