Dr. M.P.K. Withanawasam is a prominent figure in the field of economics, particularly renowned for his research contributions in international trade, labor market dynamics, sustainable development, and finance. Withanawasam's academic journey began with a Bachelor of Science in Administration (Business Economics) from the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, Sri Lanka, where he graduated with First Class honors in 2010. His undergraduate thesis delved into the repercussions of the withdrawal of the Generalized System of Preferences Plus (GSP+) on the Sri Lankan economy, showcasing his early interest in trade issues.

Continuing his pursuit of academic excellence, Withanawasam earned a Master's degree in Economics (International Economics) from the University of Colombo, Sri Lanka, where his research focused on bilateral trade dynamics in Sri Lanka under the GSP. Following this, he pursued a Master of Management, majoring in Management Science and Engineering, at Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST), China, where his thesis investigated the relationship between financial development and economic growth in Sri Lanka.

Withanawasam's academic journey reached its pinnacle with a Doctorate of Philosophy (PhD) from Dongbei University of Finance and Economics (DUFE), China. His doctoral research centered on exploring the impact of the global value chain on Sri Lanka's economic development, demonstrating his dedication to understanding the complexities of international trade and economic integration.

In addition to his academic achievements, Withanawasam has accumulated extensive experience in various management practices and academic roles. He has served as a Student Counselor, Quality Coordinator, and Lecturer at the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, Sri Lanka, where he currently holds positions as a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Business Economics and as Secretary in the Research Center for Business Economics and Development Studies (RCBEDS). Withanawasam's commitment to academia is further evidenced by his roles as Editorial Board member for the "Savidu" Newsletter and as a web administrator and exam portal administrator for the Department of Business Economics.

Throughout his career, Withanawasam has actively contributed to research and publications, resulting in an impressive portfolio of 26 works.
