Department of Business Economics transformed my career life
“I’m Pasan Wijayawardhana, currently working as an assistant lecturer attached to the Department of Economics in Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, Sri Lanka. It is a great pleasure to pen down to write on contribution of my mother of undergraduate studies, Department of Business Economics in Faculty of Management Studies & Commerce in USJ to my university career which is ended-up with the Best Student Gold Medal at 47th Convocation of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura. Without any doubt, I want to say that, the Department of Business Economics is the best platform for someone to become an all-rounder with excellence in both academics and extra-curricular works. Now a day, there’s a growing demand for the graduates with Management knowledge plus Economics understanding. The Department of Business Economics has successfully catered this new normal corporate demand. Moreover, thanks to research culture cultivated by the Department of Business Economics, I was able to secure the economic research championship award for two consecutive times at 15th and 16th South Asian Economic Students’ Meet (SAESM) which was organized by SAESM Committee along with World Bank. Appointment as the country director (Sri Lanka) of couple of international bodies namely International Youth Society for Sustainable Development (IYSSD) and South Asian Forum of Emerging Economists (SAFEE) can be cited as the outcomes earned from global network that I build, thanks to facilitation provided by the Department of Business Economics. Further, the leadership opportunities provided by the Department of Economics through university level & national level student bodies such as BIZCON Students’ Association and Sri Lanka Forum of Junior Business Economists (SLFJBE) helped me a lot to climb the ladder of leadership too. In addition to these, it’s really grateful to thanks department for the amazing guidance and supports provided to achieve national victories in the aesthetic and sports field throughout the university era.
Of all the departments in the university, nothing strikes me as more deserving than the others for the title of “Best multi serving department” in the University of Sri Jayewardenepura. Simply, Department of Business Economics transformed my career life a lot.“
