BEC 3180 Swimming Session Enhances Students’ Personal and Professional Development

The Department of Business Economics successfully conducted a Swimming Session for third-year undergraduates under the course BEC 3180: Personal and Professional Development on 15 July 2026 at the University Swimming Pool Complex, University of Sri Jayewardenepura.

The session was conducted by Mr. Pasindu Mihiran, Instructor in Physical Education, and Mr. Nadee Ginige, Instructor in Physical Education. Under their professional guidance, students were introduced to essential swimming techniques, water-safety practices, breathing methods, body coordination, and the importance of maintaining confidence and discipline in an aquatic environment.

The practical activities provided students with an opportunity to develop physical fitness, endurance, concentration, self-confidence, and the ability to overcome fear and personal limitations. The instructors ensured that the activities were conducted in a safe, supportive, and encouraging learning environment, enabling both experienced swimmers and beginners to participate meaningfully.

The session also highlighted the importance of swimming as a valuable life skill and as an effective recreational activity for managing stress and maintaining physical and mental well-being. Students who were unable to participate directly in the swimming activities were given the opportunity to observe the session and learn about water safety and basic swimming practices.

This activity formed an important component of BEC 3180: Personal and Professional Development, which aims to support the holistic development of students by integrating academic learning with physical well-being, teamwork, discipline, resilience, and personal growth.

The Department of Business Economics sincerely appreciates Mr. Pasindu Mihiran and Mr. Nadee Ginige for their expert instruction, dedication, and valuable contribution towards the successful completion of the session. The Department also acknowledges the support extended by the Physical Education Unit of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura in facilitating this valuable learning experience.
