Business Economics Students Join Spring Language and Cultural Programme 2026 in China

Students of the Department of Business Economics, namely Sadini Silva, Vidhushi Samarakkodi, Lihini Harischandra, Sanuri Perera, Abilakshi Herath, Savindu Wijetilleke, and Supun Rasanjana, participated in the Spring Language and Cultural Programme 2026, a ten-day international programme hosted by Zhejiang Shuren University in Hangzhou, China.

The programme was conducted as part of the longstanding academic relationship between Zhejiang Shuren University and the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, which has continued to create international learning opportunities for undergraduates for more than a decade. This year, undergraduates from the Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce and the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences participated in the programme.

The participants were warmly welcomed by Zhejiang Shuren University, including at a welcoming dinner held on 29 May 2026 at Shuren Hotel. During the programme, students attended Chinese language learning sessions, which introduced them to basic language skills useful for everyday communication and cultural understanding.

The programme also included field visits and industry exposure, enabling students to observe business practices, manufacturing processes, wholesale markets, and technology-driven development in China. Visits to small commodity markets, the Yiwu International Trade Market, and reputed companies such as GEELY provided insights into international trade, automobile engineering, and the operation of large-scale business networks.

The cultural component of the programme further enriched the students’ learning experience. Visits to the Grand Canal and West Lake enabled students to appreciate the historical, cultural, and urban significance of Hangzhou. The programme also exposed students to areas such as urban planning, artificial intelligence, robotics, drone farming, digital marketing through platforms such as TikTok, and modern manufacturing practices.

The student delegation was guided by Prof. R. N. Weerasinghe of the Faculty, who provided guidance and mentorship throughout the visit. The experience helped students broaden their academic, cultural, and professional perspectives while strengthening the international engagement between Zhejiang Shuren University and the University of Sri Jayewardenepura.
