Yoga Session for Third-Year Undergraduates of the Department of Business Economics

As part of the BEC 3180: Personal and Professional Development course, a Yoga Session was organized for the third-year undergraduates of the Department of Business Economics on 17 June 2026 at the International Theravada Buddhist Center, Wijerama.

The session was conducted by renowned Yoga Master Mr. Janaka Perera, under the guidance and supervision of the academic staff of the Department of Business Economics. The primary objective of the programme was to promote physical and mental well-being among undergraduates and provide them with an opportunity to relieve stress and refresh their minds amidst their busy academic schedules.

At the beginning of the session, Mr. Janaka Perera delivered a brief introduction to yoga and explained its significance in maintaining a healthy lifestyle. He also highlighted the benefits of yoga for university students, including improved concentration, physical fitness, emotional balance, mindfulness, and overall well-being.

Following the introduction, students engaged in a series of breathing exercises and warm-up activities designed to prepare their bodies and minds for yoga practice. The session then progressed to various yoga postures and exercises, allowing participants to experience the physical and mental benefits of yoga firsthand.

Throughout the programme, Mr. Janaka Perera provided valuable insights into the therapeutic effects of each exercise and explained how yoga contributes to relaxation, stress reduction, and improved physical health. The session offered students a meaningful break from their daily routines while enhancing their mindfulness and self-awareness.

The programme concluded successfully with a group photograph, marking the end of an engaging and beneficial experience for all participants. The Department of Business Economics greatly appreciates the contribution of Mr. Janaka Perera and the guidance of the academic staff in making this event a success.
