Global Opportunities Awareness Session Inspires BEC Students to Explore Global Opportunities
As part of the BEC 3180 – Personal and Professional Development course, an engaging Global Opportunities Awareness Session was conducted by AIESEC in USJ, providing students with valuable insights into international volunteering, internships, global networking, and career development opportunities.

The session introduced students to AIESEC, its extensive international network, and the range of opportunities available for young people to enhance their personal and professional development through international exposure.
The session was facilitated by two resource persons from AIESEC in USJ:
- Ms. Sineli Thilakarathne – Local Committee Vice President for Outgoing Global Volunteer PS
- Ms. Vihangi Ranaweera – Local Committee Vice President for Outgoing Global Talent
The resource persons provided an informative overview of AIESEC and explained how university students can benefit from its global platform. Particular attention was given to global volunteering programmes and international internship opportunities available through AIESEC.
Students were introduced to how international projects are organized, the process of participating in projects across different countries, and the personal and professional competencies that can be developed through such experiences. The session highlighted the importance of strengthening communication, teamwork, leadership, adaptability, and cross-cultural competencies in preparing students for an increasingly globalized employment environment.
A key focus of the session was the value of global networking and international exposure. Students learned how international experiences can provide opportunities to interact with people from different cultural backgrounds, understand diverse perspectives, experience new cultures, and establish international connections that may support their future academic and career development.
An interactive question-and-answer session was also conducted, allowing students to clarify their concerns regarding international volunteering, internships, overseas projects, eligibility requirements, and participation opportunities. The resource persons also shared relevant contact information with students who expressed an interest in learning more about AIESEC programmes.
Overall, the AIESEC Global Opportunities Awareness Session provided students with a valuable introduction to international volunteering, global internships, cross-cultural networking, and international career opportunities. The session encouraged students to look beyond the traditional academic environment and actively explore opportunities that can broaden their perspectives, strengthen their employability skills, and contribute to their overall personal and professional growth.
The programme represented another important learning experience under BEC 3180 – Personal and Professional Development, supporting the Department’s commitment to preparing students to become confident, globally aware, and career-ready graduates.
