
Zumba Session Conducted for BEC 3180: Personal and Professional Development
The Department of Business Economics successfully conducted a Zumba session for third-year undergraduates under the course BEC 3180: Personal and Professional Development on 24 June 2026, from 9.00 a.m. to 11.00 a.m.
The session was organized as a practical learning activity to support students’ personal development, physical well-being, self-confidence, teamwork, and active participation. It provided students with an opportunity to understand the importance of maintaining a healthy and balanced lifestyle while engaging in academic and professional development activities.
The session was conducted with the support and direction of the Physical Education Unit. Ms. Nishanthi Vidanage and Dr. Nayomi Karunarathne provided valuable guidance in directing the session. The Zumba activities were led by Ms. B. T. T. Perera, who guided the students through a series of energetic and rhythm-based fitness exercises.
The programme created an active, enjoyable, and motivating environment for students. It encouraged them to develop discipline, coordination, positive attitudes, and enthusiasm towards physical fitness. The session also highlighted the importance of physical activity as an integral part of personality development and professional growth.
The course was coordinated by Dr. M. P. K. Withanawasam, who emphasized the importance of combining academic learning with practical experiences that strengthen students’ personal and professional skills.
The Department of Business Economics extends its sincere appreciation to the Physical Education Unit, Ms. Nishanthi Vidanage, Dr. Nayomi Karunarathne, Ms. B. T. T. Perera, and all the students who actively participated in making the session a success.
