
Congratulations to the Department of Business Economics for Securing Two Prestigious Research Grants at the Gamini Corea Research Awards 2024-2025

We are pleased to announce that the Department of Business Economics has secured two group research grants at the Gamini Corea Research Awards 2024-2025. These prestigious and highly competitive grants, each valued at Rs. 3 million, have been awarded to support impactful economic research in Sri Lanka.
One of the awarded projects is titled “Capturing the Digital Economy Measurement Framework for Sri Lanka: Assessing Key Indicators, Trends, and Policy Implications”. This research project is led by Prof. Kumuduni Sriyalatha, together with a research team comprising Dr. Priyantha Lalani, Dr. Maduranga, and Ms. Thilini Navaratne. The study focuses on measuring key dimensions of Sri Lanka’s digital economy and generating valuable insights into its trends, development, and policy implications.
Another research team, led by Dr. Janaka Fernando, received the grant for the project titled “Social Security Challenges of an Ageing Population Amid Economic Downturn: A Case of Sri Lanka”. This study examines the growing social security challenges faced by Sri Lanka’s ageing population within the context of ongoing economic instability.
These awards represent a significant achievement for the Department of Business Economics and reflect its continued commitment to advancing knowledge and generating research-driven solutions to national economic challenges.
