Curriculum Development Workshop of the Dept of BEC
The Department of Business Economics was established in 2002 with the prime objective of catering the rising demand for an economics degree within the management discipline being the pioneering degree programme of this nature in the university system in Sri Lanka. The degree programme is specifically designed to bridge the gap between theory and practice in the area of Economics directly relevant to businesses. The Department also facilitates the development of the undergraduates’ skills in research, analysis, communication, team work and decision making in order to enhance personal, social and national development.
In order to update the curriculum with the changes occurring in the competitive and dynamic global and local business environment, the department is currently engaged in the process of developing a new curriculum. As the first step, the department conducted a workshop on the 24th of October 2017 at Hotel Berjaya, Mount Lavinia to identify the strengths and weaknesses of the current curriculum and to plan required changes. Prof. Sampath Amaratunge-Vice Chancellor of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, Dr. (Mrs.) Kumuduni Sriyalatha-Head of the Department and all academic and non-academic staff members participated in this event and shared their valuable insights.
