The Felicitation Ceremony of Snr. Prof. Sampath Amaratunge in Celebrating him being awarded “The Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon.”
Senior Professor Sampath Amaratunge, the chairman of the University Grants Commission and the Professor Chair of the Department of Business Economics, has always been an extraordinary public administrator who has extended his invaluable service to the education sector of Sri Lanka for decades. Amongst his many triumphs, of him being awarded by a topmost national order in Japan, “The Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon” by the Emperor of Japan was celebrated by the Department of Business Economics on 29th December. The award was conferred to Snr. Prof. Amaratunge in recognition of his outstanding contribution to international relations, his commitment to promoting the Japanese culture in the international arena and his advancement in research in the field of rural development.
The official felicitation ceremony was held at the Senate Board Room of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura from 3.00 pm to 5.00 pm, where Senior Professor Sampath Amaratunge was felicitated by the academics, non-academics of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura and the students of the Department of Business Economics.
Following the official ceremony, a felicitation dinner was organized at Shangri-La Hotel, Colombo, on the same day and was graced by the members of academia and the alumni of the department.
