Workshop on “University-Industry Collaborative Research”
Under the MoU with Sheffield Hallam University, UK, the Department of Decision Sciences organized an industry workshop on ‘University-Industry Collaborative Research’. This workshop was held on 12th September 2018 at the new boardroom of the Sri Soratha Building with the participation of many professionals from leading companies in Sri Lanka, including Trelleborg Lanka, Sri Lankan Airlines, Flintec Transducers, Harcros Chemicals, Hirdaramani, Sri Lanka Institute of Textile and Apparel, Bharti Airtel Lanka, Glaxo Smith Kline. Vice-chancellor, Prof. Sampath Amaratunge, Dean, Dr. U. Anura Kumara, Director of the Faculty Research Center, Prof. Y. K. Weerakoon Banda graced the event. Prof. Terrence Perera from Sheffield Hallam University was the resource person of the workshop and he conducted a lecture on ‘Supply Chain Management Technologies’.
Dr Chathurani Silva, Coordinator for the MoU with Sheffield Hallam University presented the results of a survey on ‘Logistics and Supply Chain Management Practices in Sri Lanka’ conducted jointly with Prof. Terrence Perera. The workshop was also attended by academic members of the faculty who engaged in research in operations Management and Supply Chain management fields.
The purpose of the workshop was to explore potential research opportunities available in the industry for these fields and to understand the industry expert’s attitude towards the university-industry collaborative research. Before starting the industry session, Prof. Terrence Perera also conducted a student session on ‘Industry 4.0 in Supply Chain Management’ for the undergraduates of the Department of Decision Sciences.
